The nurse and health aide will begin vision, hearing and acanthosis screenings on September 9th, 2026. Fifth graders will be screened first, then we will move to lower grade levels. Please see the brief descriptions of the screenings below.
Vision and Hearing Screening - Pre-K, Kinder, 1st, 3rd, 5th grade and students of all grades, who are new to the district, will be screened. If a student does not pass the initial vision and hearing screening, a second screening will take place within 2 weeks. If a student does not pass the second screening, a referral letter will be sent home by the nurse.
Texas risk Assessment for Type 2 Diabetes (visual screening of the neck) - 1st, 3rd, and 5th graders. Acanthosis Nigricans is a skin marker (usually seen on the back of the neck) associated with high insulin levels and is considered a risk factor for Type 2 Diabetes. Students found to have the skin marker will be individually assessed for height, weight and blood pressure, and a written referral with the results of the assessment will be sent home by the nurse.
Please note: If you opted out of any of the screenings on your student’s registration this year, as requested, your child will not be screened.
Respectfully,

Dear Salinas Elementary Families,
Today marked our Apex Leadership Co.Launch Day, kicking off our two-week fundraising and leadership program! The Apex Team will be on campus sharing engaging leadership lessons and helping our school raise funds for Campus Improvements, School Events, Student Academic Programs, and Staff Appreciation. The fundraiser will conclude with a high-energy Fun Run event on Thursday, Sept 10.
This Year’s Leadership Theme: ⚡APEX SUPER HEROES⚡
Students will be encouraged to continuously become better versions of themselves by seeking new opportunities to learn, grow, and lead!
Each Class' Fundraising Goal: 10% of the total funds collected will go directly to each teacher to use in our own classrooms! Our class goal is to raise $100/unit to purchase classroom supplies.
HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT OUR SCHOOL DURING THE APEX PROGRAM:
1. Visit www.MyApexEvent.com and log in using your child’s unique access code, which can be found on their VIP Badge coming home today.
2. Use the “Share Wizard” tool to send a donation link to 10 family members and friends via email, text, and social media, asking them to donate online to support our school.
3. Make a flat donation or pledge a dollar amount for each unit your child completes at the event. Please note that the maximum number of reported units is capped at 42. If a student is absent or unable to participate, their completed units will default to 40.
4. Pre-K classes will only be raising “flat donations,” and Pre-K teachers will record 40 units if a per-unit pledge is received.
Please look out for daily updates about our school’s pledge totals and progress! If you have not received your child’s access code by the end of the day, please let your child's teacher know or email Rubyd@apexleadershipco.com.
All students will participate in the Apex program and celebration event, regardless of fundraising contributions. Every contribution makes a difference, and no donation is too small!
